This website addresses longstanding concerns about Grace Community Church in Fulton, Maryland (“Grace”). My name is Brian Campbell. I am a former member of Grace and the principal editor of this site. Although I cannot claim credit for most of the information disclosed, I am solely responsible for anything published herein.
Grace Anatomy addresses the spiritual corpus of a once strongly unified megachurch in suburban Maryland. We want this congregation to thrive and relentlessly bear fruit once again. To many, this body appears infirmed, feeble. We think this community has been getting worse for the better part of a decade. In cases like this, our belief is that multiple, perhaps even excessive biopsies, tests, examinations, etc. executed immediately serve to prevent death and subsequent autopsies, hence … Biopsies Prevent Autopsies.
Our goal is to do everything possible to encourage change while compromising neither God’s prohibitions nor His compelling directives. We have always been and will continue to be for Grace.
Improvements
As outlined last May, we were considering eventually removing all password protection from this website. After a number of requests to do so, we have implented that change. Eventually we envision migrating it to Grace-Anatomy.com and increasing exposure by enabling search engines to find it..
Website Feedback provided
Feedback about this website has been overwhemingly positive. There have been eight responses that were negative, most dramatically so. At least seven if not all of them were from individuals who had yet to visit this site.
One staff member communicates, “It’s clear y’all aren’t serious about the information you have if it’s password protected and you are trying to drip feed it. Sounds more like a disinformation campaign to cause panic.
As an aside, the super generalized stats and metaphors are insulting. Comparing anything, especially workplace disputes, to a disease our bodies have no control over and that has literally killed countless loved ones is crass.”
A stakeholder communicates, "It is just as I suspected! You want a insurrection! You want to see Mitchell fired and the elders removed!"
A pastor at Grace writes, “You owe se[ver]al people public apologies. I think that the way you handle you[r] disappointments about Grace was wicked. I do believe you intended to do good but choices resulted in sin Particularly slander and di[v]siveness on your part. … It's my opinion their needs to be an intentional effort to heal so[m]e broken relationships.”
One stakeholder vieledly communicated, "Pity if it was circulated that mental illness was sited as the cause of your rambling, incoherent letters."
Stakeholders present strongly opposing desires. One thinks for us to offer any solutions is an overreach. Another thinks we did not offer enough solutions.
A pastor and friend of Pastor Mitchel writes, “I don’t love the content nor the aim of it, considering you have left Grace and are not serving/caring/giving input from within. This has the feel/content of lobbing bombs from outside onto a church/leadership that is not perfect, but certainly not toxic.
I assume, from this introductory email, that the content you are then distributing on request (or in the blog you’ve mentioned?) is even less edifying. I’m very sad to hear and see this.”
I include examples of feedback here for one reason. The benefactors of these comments are not exactly ardent supporters. Yet, they are exactly the type of individuals we want participating. While we appreciate and do not want to dissuade positive comments, we covet responses from all factions including those presenting the aforementioned replies, Pastor Mitchel, and all employees and elders of Grace. Again, all identities will be masked unless a contributor tells us otherwise.
From whatever perspective you are, please participate.
